Graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University Department of Medical Rehabilitation; from 1981 worked his way up from an intern to become the Director of Sarajishvili Neurology Institute;
Attended training courses at Technion University in Israel, World Health Organisation (WHO) in Denmark, Maastricht University in Netherlands, Yagelon University in Poland, and Rockefeller Centre in Italy;
Author of over 50 scientific works and two inventions, as well as pre-diploma and post-diploma courses of lectures on patient security;
Member of the Parliament of 2004 year convocation;
At various occasions worked as a Chief Consultant for UNIFARM, British- Soviet joint company, a Member of the Supervisory Board of Mercedes, and a Coordinator and Director of WHO Medicine Policy Programme (1999-2000);
Chairman of Alliance of Improved Nutrition for Georgia and Georgian Alliance for Patients Safety; Head of the National Programme for Reducing Anaemia;
Member of WHO Patient Safety Committee, European Society for Quality in Healthcare, International Association of Business and Parliament, Council of European Federation of Neurological Societies; and the Regional Coordinator of European-Asian Patient Safety Initiative.
