Every single step by current authorities made against “Democratic Movement” is clear proof that the government is afraid of us because they know that on our side is the truth.

The government declared war against real political opponents and especially against “Democratic Movement”. The government uses all illegal al and immoral means.  Physical, psychological and financial terror, humiliation of and illegal arrests became daily activity of the government.

Two years passed since the beginning the War of August 2008. “Democratic Movement expresses condolences towards the families of the people died in the war.

Statement of the Main Council of “Democratic Movement”

Exactly one year ago next to the Tbilisi Police Department, the representatives of law enforcement bodies violently dispersed peaceful protest of youth organizations of the opposition parties.

On May 18 the information was spread that PR office of “Democratic Movement” is confirming the fact that Nino Burjanadze and the president of Russian Federation, Dmitri Medvedev were staying in the same hotel. 

The PR office of “Democratic Movement” have not and could not have confirmed the above mentioned fact just because Russian president was not staying in the same hotel.

“Democratic Movement – United Georgia” is not participating in the local elections, because the urgent problem of Georgia is not Mayor or local municipalities but the president and his direct surrounding. This election cannot solve the main problems of territorial integrity, human rights, media freedom or important social and economical problems.

Several days ago one of news agencies spread information that “Democratic Movement” is planning to call its supporters to vote for the candidature of “National council” in forthcoming local elections.

Democratic Movement-United Georgia” condemns the fact which occurred in TV “Kavkasia” and declares that any kind of pressure on free media is unacceptable, as well as intolerance and violence in the society. 

It is essential to conduct objective investigation and people who are guilty should face trial – is said in the statement of Main Council of the party.

On May 6, 2009 the private police of Saakashvili and Merabishvili organized bloody St. George’s day. Police beat and shoot on protesters causing serious injuries. Two men lost their eyes.

Today one year later on the holy day of St. George authorities celebrated professional day of police. Saakashvili da Merabishvili held theatre parade in front of the so called transparent building of Ministry of Internal Affairs.

One year passed since so called Mukhrovani revolt. The government quickly “Investigated” the case and send many people to jail. But there are still lots of unanswered questions.

There is an option that above mentioned events were provoked and initiated by the government to unlawfully interfere in military affairs and politicize it. Appointment of Bacho akhalaia as Minister of Defence and later events supported the possibility.

Georgian society remembers quit well the reaction caused by explosion of the Bridge by Georgian law enforcement agencies in Upper Racha. That time “Democratic Movement” in his statement underlined that in addition of Abkhazia and Tkhinvali region is further losing its territories. That time the authorities were denying the fact of loosing Mamisoni Pass and 20 Km next to it.
