Special Statement by Non-Parliamentary Opposition
During the visit of US Vice-President Joseph Biden in Georgia, our Government reiterated its announcement on launching a New Wave of Democracy in the country.

In fact, as soon as the visit ended, the Government resumed its policy of political persecution and revenge on people who were previously actively involved in the protest rallies.

The major public protest has been caused by real problems. Any capable and development-oriented Government must respond by solving these problems. Unfortunately, we are once again witnessing a reaction characteristic to irrelevant and authoritarian regimes: the Government’s New Wave of Democracy is oriented at persecuting people who ‘think otherwise’!

The political terror implemented by the Georgian Government is more than a domestic political problem: it is impossible to discuss stability, security and solution of conflicts when the Government itself acts as an occupant and aggressor force to its own citizens.

Thanks to the Government’s current policy, the much advertised New Wave of Democracy has turned into a New Wave of Terror. However, the Government seems to have failed understanding that it really is possible to terrorize a part of the nation for some time, but it cannot be true forever or for every single member of the nation. And the nation’s verdict to the Government will be most severe, unless it gives up imprisoning and mutilating innocent people.

We call upon everyone who values the ideal of freedom: let us all confront the most shameful form of organized crime in the 21st century – terrorizing of its own citizens by the state due to their different political views.
