On February 2, 2010 after return from World economical forum, the chairwoman of the ‘Democratic Movement - United Georgia”, Nino Burjanadze held a special press-conference and summarized her visit to Davos.“As you are aware, I was invited on the World Economical forum in davos and within the framework of it participated in different discussions and events.
While world media (BBC, CNN etc) were opening their news with the information on Davos World economical forum and the event was attended by first officials of the different countries, world rank politics, representatives of the business centre, international experts and analytic, it is worrying that second time none of the Georgian officials were invited on the Forum.
It is even more worrying that, during the visit it became more obvious for me that there is not even perspective for our country in near future to participate in such events on highest official level.
Unfortunately Georgia is not seen as an important partner country. Georgia is not involved in the international processes. Due to this fact Georgia does not have an opportunity do defense its own interests in the international politics.
Thanks to Mikhail saakashvili and his government our country is in de facto international isolation.
Additionally, in Davos I had very important bilateral meetings.
The position of our western partners during these meetings once more proved that our country is loosing its function and the role in the region and in the international affairs as well.
Our western friends were concerned about the ongoing processes in Georgia, about the irresponsible statements and the actions of saakashvili and his government. They are alarmed that Georgian government is blaming the members of the Tagliavini Commission and the minister of foreign affairs of Germany in connection with Russian intelligence. And they think it is unacceptable - the stupid interference in internal affairs of Ukrainian internal affairs.
The recent events in Ukraine have given to our friends’ additional doubts even about the possibility of democratic elections under government of saakashvili.
Saakashvili has worsened the relationship with all our strategic partners and in some cases brought the friendly relationship below zero.
The situation is very difficult in connection with the foreign investment. During my meetings in Davos World Economical Forum many representatives of the world business elite stated that they had a wish and interest to invest in Georgia, but after examining the Business climate, it became clear that numbers and data of the Georgian government have nothing in common with reality.
Saakashvili is creating the image if instable country and hinders all kinds of serious foreign investments in the country.
With full responsibility, I declare that Georgia has very limited time to survive. Under present government Georgia has not a slightest place for maneuver in order to avoid full isolation from support of international community.
No one should have an illusion that other countries will do the job to be done by population of Georgia. There is an expectation from international community that the population of Georgia will itself guarantee the democratic changes in Georgia and will give to the country the chance of survival and development.
It is not the news for us that agency of Merabishvili is tapping all our conversations. Today it became more clear the “great attention” enjoyed by our organization. In order to neutralize my statement, the president’s administration preventively informed us on unprecedented busy agenda of the president. It appears that only due to busy schedule the president is not participating in the Munchen Security Conference attended by many European leaders.
No wonder because giving comments on different TV programs, to prepare for sky or skating world championships leaves no time for “unimportant” events like davos or munchen forums.
It was interesting to hear as well that president Obama invited Saakashvili to the United States on the Conference on Nuclear Non-proliferation. I can not say for sure but just 15 minutes ago ended my meeting with US ambassador John Bass. During the meeting I expressed my concern on isolation of Saakashvili and on the fact that even during the UN general Assemble was not organized just a handshake meeting with president Obama, Mr ambassador did not comforted me by the information that president of Georgia is invited to the US.
One Point should be mentioned the world is lucky that the bottom of the nuclear weapon is not in the hands of Saakashvili.
All of this would be funny but its pity that we are talking about our country and our president” –stated Mrs. Nino Burjanadze.
