Mrs. Nino Burjanadze Held the press conference summarizing the visits to Moscow and Brussels

On march 15, the leader of the democratic Movement” Mrs. Nino Burjanadze on the press conference in the main office of the party summarized her visits to Moscow and Brussels.

“Georgian authorities have no recourse for successful foreign policy.  In fact Georgia is in the international isolation.  Russia declaratively refuses to have dialogue with current government. And the World society including our strategic partners does the same but without declaration.

We are very far away from all goals Georgian nation was fighting for during last 20 years: instead of territorial integrity we have lost 20% of our territory, instead of Eurointegration we got further from western values. Significant confirmation of it is the US state department’s annual report on the situation in Georgia regarding Human Rights and Democracy. The level of our relationships is insufficient with Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey etc.

Taking into consideration all of the above mentioned, in order to save our country it is necessary the existed reality to be seen and analyzed properly in the international community to find appropriate solution.

It is beyond doubt that the resolution of the main problems of Georgia is possible only by peaceful means and for the unity of our country it is essential to have political dialogue with all parties, especially with Russia.

That is why I want to use all my experience, energy and international contacts and to do everything to find solution from existed situation and to create conditions when our people together with Abkhazians and Ossetians can live peacefully in united, peaceful and democratic Georgia.

That is why I had decided to visit Moscow and Brussels and in near future the visits are planed in US and in several European capitals.

Within the frame of the visit to Moscow the meetings took place with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Minister of foreign affairs Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Minister of foreign affairs Gregory Karasin and Chairman of the Russian Duma Sergey Mironov.

During the meetings I clearly saw that Russian authorities fully acknowledge that finding the solution from tense bilateral relations is in the long term interests of Russia and is directly connected with maintaining peace in Caucasus, especially in the northern Caucasus.

Taking into consideration the background prior to the meeting when Russia was underlining the new reality in the region, it was totally unexpected for me the declaration of Russian officials that in case of good will, wish and readiness to have dialogue based on the equality and mutual respect, there are no problems, even most painful, which can not be discussed and solved.

Especially I should mention that, unlike our president, proudly declaring himself as a winner in the war, prime minister of Russia does not speak about the victory and assesses the existed situation and the war of august 2008 as a common tragedy and confirms that Russian authorities are reedy to make real steps to find the way out and to bring the relationship at least to the level of the pre war.

But the population of Georgia should acknowledge that it is impossible under daily provocations of the Saakashvili's government.

During the visit I passed the thanks regards to the patriarch of the Russia on behalf of Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II due to the fact that Russian Church did not recognize the independence of “Abkhazian Church” and supports the unity of the Georgian Orthodox Church on the whole territory of Georgia.

After Moscow I visited Brussels, where I had bilateral meetings with representatives of the executive and legislative brunches of Belgium as well as with the officials of the EU parliament and European commission.

Internal and foreign Political situation of Georgia was the main topic of the talks.
The meeting with representatives of Belgium is essential taking into consideration the fact that from 1 July, 2010 Belgium is getting EU Chairmanship.

High rank officials in Brussels assessed my visit to Moscow positively. They underlined the fact that I am not talking about brake up of the relationship with Russia and war, but about the possible solutions from the crisis, both countries are in.

During the meetings was mentioned that it is essential to start dialogue between Georgia and Russia and the West is ready to get actively involved.

The Europe is interested to cooperate with Georgia, but there will be no integration with European structures if government will not fulfil its obligations about democratic values, regulation of the relations with Russia and achieving of stability in the country.

I am openly declaring that I started dialogue and I am making steps to protect the essential interests of my country. All this steps are oriented on the concrete results and not on PR activities. Exactly because of unnecessary PR actions we lost more than 20% of our territory and are facing international isolation.

Taking into consideration the fact the current authorities do not have any resource to have dialogue with Russia, every citizen of Georgia, especially the politicians should use every mechanism to avoid the provocations similar to august 2008. Unfortunately the repeat of it is possible due to irresponsibility of Saakashvili. Clear evidence of it we saw on March 13 and it may lead to terrible results.

The goal of my party is that the population of Georgia not to get involved in bloody war again.

And finally, knowing the huge interest about my visit, not dependant on positive, skeptical or negative evaluation of it, I am ready to have meetings with experts, non-governmental organizations, representatives every group of society to inform them on my motivations, decisions, real attitudes and opportunities existed in Russia and in the west.”- stated Mrs. Nino Burjanadze.
