Statement of the Main Council of “Democratic Movement”
Exactly one year ago next to the Tbilisi Police Department, the representatives of law enforcement bodies violently dispersed peaceful protest of youth organizations of the opposition parties.
The youth who were expressing verbal protest against violence and aggression were surrounded, attacked and beaten by hundreds of policemen and so called “zonder brigades”. Besides youth the representatives of media were beaten as well. All cameras were taken away from Georgian and foreign journalists and later were returned but with erased film.
The vandal act of June 15, 2009 was condemned by Georgian and international community demanding objective investigation and the punishment of the organizers and executers of this criminal act. This issue is twice mentioned in the Human Rights report of the US State Department as well.
Today, even one year later all the calls for investigation are not answered yet like many similar cases of violence and terror by current authorities. It is not surprising because this kind of acts are facilitated from Saakashvili and Merabishvili who instead of the punishment gives awards to executers of the criminal orders and implements the syndrome of impunity among them.
Violence became the undividable part of the current regime.
For “Democratic Movement” the law is supreme and that is why would never ask the representatives of the law enforcement bodies not to conduct their duties; but executing the illegal orders is criminal act according to legislation of Georgia as well. That is why they should feel responsible for their country and should never obey illegal orders directed against own citizens.
